Zima Hunca Munca

Hunca Munca was a 'one off' in every respect. The sole puppy coming from a mother/son line breeding (Shannon x Tango) Munca had all the benefits and disadvantages of being brought up alone. Sadly the positive physical attributes of his sire and dam were outweighed by the problems/risks you take with such a close breeding. Munca was huge in heart, desire, mental toughness and enthusiasm, but never had the physic to support these qualities.
From the outset Munca struggled with his diet. Whenever we thought him stabalised he would eventually have a set back, and we would have to nurture him back to fitness carefully. We were to discover eventually - after a post mortem - that to quote our vet 'he had a liver the size of a walnut, and as malformed'.
He was a very special personality - almost human in his understanding of situations - and very popular with all members of the pack. Clearly he lived his life in very close proximity to Shanny, sharing a bed with her throughout his life - no mean feat given his size! When we lost him we were clearly very upset, but on learning of his life long medical problems, we were in total admiration of the way in which he had coped with his condition, and his apparent cheerfulness.

Major achievements
On the trail:
From 1992 to 1997 Munca was an automatic selection for our 'C4' / 'C3' teams.
Very intelligent, he was comfortable in lead or on wheel,
but was never really able to meet the additional speeds required of 'B' class competition.
